This summer, the NHL and National Basketball Association plan to formulate their own policies for bloggers.
Frank Brown, the vice-president of media relations for the NHL, said the league wants to set boundaries without inhibiting coverage.
“We are incredibly respectful of the voraciousness with which the digital consumers participate in NHL dialogue,” he said. “At the same time, we have to be equally protective of entities that are entitled to protection. You have to serve several masters.”

I can remember a few times this past season when the only time I was watching a game was because I was also reading a live blog of the game and commenting. The games had become very boring, and if it wasn’t for the funny comments made by the bloggers and the discussions in the comments that veered entirely off topic into hockey-related, but sometimes really odd areas, I would have turned off the game after about five minutes.
Maybe some people are following the live blog because they are at work on a computer, and that is the only way they can keep up? And maybe some fans follow the game via live blog because the announcers make their ears bleed, they are so bad.
