NHL vs. NBA

from Adrian Dater of All Things Avs,
The NHL has now officially surpassed the NBA as the better league when playoff time rolls around. You can sense people around the country are starting to pick up on this too. It’s starting to get a little bit of a buzz comparable to the NCAA men’s hoops tourney, in some ways. Just a little. Nobody watches college basketball during the regular season, but everyone watches the NCAAs because the teams care so much and the games are usually close. Nobody watches the NHL’s regular season, either, but the playoffs have become a flag-waving, everybody-comes-dressed-the-same, must-see roar-fest, with games between teams that aren’t separated by much. While the NHL constantly gets chumped on by pundits for their low TV ratings, the fact is they are pretty well comparable to the NBA in these playoffs so far, and were last year as well.

I stopped watching the NBA in the early 90’s, when the team aspect of the game started to dissappear. Too many one-on-one iso situations by 17 and 18 year olds who lacked basic fundamentals of the game because the only training grounds they experienced were in high school.

Nope. Gambling is the reason why everybody watches the NCAA tournament. Same could probably be said about the NFL with the explosion of fantasy football over the past 10 years.

the NBA has its head way too far up its butt to ever realize how much damage theyve done to their league since the Jordanization of it. it created NO parity and made turn around on teams getting “the chance” to win way too delayed in returns. basketball as a sport alone is a fine game to watch and has a lot of similarities to hockey in tempo sometimes (run and gun vs. half court), but the damage - in so many ways - has almost made it a situation that is irreconcilable.
