NHL Will Be Playing Somewhere On January 1st

from Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe,
The NHL’s next Winter Classic will be Bruins vs. Rangers at Yankee Stadium, Jan. 1, 2009, provided the House That Ruth Built can keep the house from flooding. Not kidding, folks. The Yanks normally shut down The Stadium at the end of October, and this year they will close the ballpark for good as they make their way around the corner to their bigger, cushier digs. If the NHL wants to go “Game on!” it will have to pay a $200,000 bill to preserve the pipes through November and December. If the league opts not to foot the expense - a decision that will have to come soon - then the Red Wings will face the Blackhawks at Wrigley Field.

WAKE UP NHL! If you want to improve your viewer share in the United States DO NOT do it on the biggest day of the year for College Football! Idiots! If NHL is just catering to the Canadian fans than go ahead and MON vs TOR.

A game at Wrigley would be awesome, so I hope they opt to go that route. And RW Bill, this year’s game had great ratings. I agreed with you prior to this year’s game that it doesn’t seem like a good idea but you and I were both proven wrong.
So with that being said let’s get a game at Wrigley!

Its a great idea to have this game on New Years day. The whole time of Dec. 26-Jan 6, all thats on TV is college Football. Plus the Bowls on early in the day are boring anyway and now the major bowls aren’t even on Jan. 1, they all have their own night.
Great idea by the NHL to keep doing this, regardless of where it is. Beaver Stadium, Flyers vs Penguins would be great!

Screw the Yankees and Rangers. The Hawks/Red Wings is much more an ideal game/venue. That shack the Ruth built is a turd of the most high and not worthy of ANY NHL game.
