“It’s a great to be back on the ice and it’s a good week to go through organized practices that help all of us get ready for training camp,’’ said former Spartan captain Shawn Horcoff, who recently signed a five-year contract extension with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers.
“Plus, it’s great to see all the guys, relive old stories and to get to know the new players. We’re all Spartans and part of a great family.’’…
Other players at the camp included goaltender Ryan Miller of the Buffalo Sabres, forwards Adam Hall (Tampa Bay), Jim Slater (Atlanta), David Booth (Florida), Drew Miller (Anaheim), and Justin Abdelkader (Detroit), defensemen Mike Weaver (St. Louis) and Andrew Hutchinson (Tampa Bay)....
Ryan Miller is entering his seventh season as a pro and fourth with the Sabres. He recently signed a five-year extension with the Sabres, ending speculation he might let his contract expire and test the market as an unrestricted free agent.
“This week has been challenging because it’s our first real tests five days in a row and two hours on the ice,’’ said Miller, 28, who still makes his offseason home in East Lansing. “With regimented drills, you can focus a little more - for me, on my balance....”
