from Chuck Gormley of CSNWashington,
Coach Dale Hunter is not saying he’ll keep Nicklas Backstrom out of the Capitals lineup until after the NHL All-Star break, but it’s sure looking like that’s the plan.
Asked for an update on Backstrom before Friday night’s game against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Hunter said the 24-year-old center remains “day-to-day” with the concussion symptoms that have affected him since he was elbowed in the chin by forward Rene Bourque on Jan. 3.
“We’re just being real careful with him, still,” Hunter said.
Asked if the Caps might decide to take a similar path with Backstrom to the one they took with Mike Green – holding him out until after the Jan. 29 All-Star Game – Hunter acknowledged it’s being considered.
