from Puck The Media,
This news coming via an NBC Press Release:
CHICAGO — Dec. 31, 2008 — Hall of Fame broadcaster “Doc” Emrick will be unable to call tomorrow’s NHL Winter Classic due to laryngitis. Dave Strader, who is the play-by-play voice of the Phoenix Coyotes and has also worked for NBC Sports, will fill in for Emrick.
“Last year’s game was a lifetime memory and I couldn’t wait to call this year’s game at Wrigely,” said Emrick. “I’m extremely disappointed but I know Dave will do a wonderful job.”

Hey, if you’re gonna rip the guy, at least spell his name right.

Eh, he’s so overrated he doesn’t deserve it. I also make it a point not to put so much effort into my generic forum posts that I find myself proofing them. Go troll somewhere else.
To be clear, I certainly wish him a speedy recovery, I’ll just be glad to hear Strader tomorrow instead of Emrick.

I’m pretty happy about this. The words this guy uses to describe what’s happening on the ice are usually completely wrong and often bizarre. He also sounds like a 40 year old virgin. But I was gonna be watching the CBC feed anyways.

Too bad for Doc, but great for Strader. I enjoyed Dave when he worked for the Wi ngs. Maybe Dave could bring his color man (Darren Pang) along with him??
Pang is Sooo much better than Olczyk.
Hopefully Pierre Mcguire will also lose his voice before the game.

So sorry to call you on your sloppiness there Nathan, you are obviously one of those great thinkers who can’t be bothered to sweat the details.
Tool!

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Anyone else a little glad about this? Strader is probably my favorite announcer (man, growing up listening to Strader call games with Mickey Redmond doing color… awesome).
Emerick is decent, but someone needs to tell him that one or two adjectives is usually more than enough… and seriously, sometimes simple is good. You don’t always have to say “knifed the puck” when it’s clear that nobody is stabbing the puck with a machete.
