No Fear In Kane’s Game

from Eric Duhatschek of the Globe and Mail,
So there was Patrick Kane, the charismatic, young Chicago Blackhawks star, fielding questions from a gathering of reporters when an innocuous softball landed at his feet.
Kane was asked: Do his butterflies increase or decrease, knowing the Blackhawks are only two victories away from a Stanley Cup appearance, entering Friday’s third game of the Western Conference final against the San Jose Sharks?
“To be honest with you, I haven’t really had butterflies as far as playing the game,” Kane answered so matter-of-factly and so without pretence that you knew it to be true.
In that sentence there is a great deal of insight into what makes tick a player small (5 foot 10, 178 pounds) even by the new NHL standards, but who plays the game without fear of failure.

Quite a favorable article with a lot of emphasis on his “charm” and “twinkling eyes.”
Respect the talent, dislike the arrogance (even if it helps him be successful).
Towes can wear 19; that’s what I think of him.

There. Fixed.
In all seriousness, Kane really is a force on the ice. If I was the opposing coach, I’d have every player Kane faced “run” him into the boards all night long. Nothing negates speed like getting pounded every time you’re on the ice.
And that’s what I hope the Sharks do until they lose in Game 7. As much as I dislike the Hawks, I have to feel sorry for them. This is their one big shot at the Cup before they have a “fire sale” this summer in order to get under the cap.
Besides, I really don’t want to watch any SC Finals games that start at 9:30. So, go Hawks…with a justly banged up Kane.
