So much for the Battle of Alberta being fun.
Legal issues got in the way of a little bit of joy this week.
The gang at Fan960 came up with a funny song in light of the Edmonton Oilers’ 10-2 drubbing at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.
(With Weird Al Yankovic-style, they used the song Lola by the Kinks and turned it into GOALA.)
Well, seems the neighbours to the north didn’t like it, not many of the Oiler-nation faithful and certainly not the team.
The Calgary radio station had to pull it down from its archives because the song used copyrighted material from the radio broadcast, the play-by-play calls of various goals, a complaint the Oilers made to the NHL, which in turn contacted the gang at Fan960.

Whatever. I thought it was funny. But I think we’ve already established that the Oilers don’t take bad press from “outside” outlets well (see: Berry, Dave).
