A list of the Top 50 sportscasters, as voted by the American Sportscasters Association. Since it is U.S. based I did not expect to see many hockey names.
Maybe I am missing some other hockey guys, but Foster Hewitt is listed at #40, right behind Bill Walton (huh)!
I wonder if any of the voters ever heard of Danny Gallivan or Dan Kelly. How about some of the current hockey broadcasters, Jim Hughson comes to mind and even Bob Cole.
Again, it is U.S. based, so the majority of voters may not even know what a puck is.

Or even Doc Emrick, who is pretty much celebrated as America’s dean of hockey announcers.

And I’m thinking it would have really been too much to ask them to consider RenĂ© Lecavalier, huh? :p

Considering the only real hockey guy on the list is Canadian, doesn’t seem to me this is an American thing. It is a hockey thing and they threw in the Canadian hockey announcer as a token for the sport.

Interesting list. Kind of surprised at Costas being voted at #6 though. He is a great baseball announcer who doesn’t do baseball anymore ( I wish he would return as he is much better IMO than Buck and McCarver). Is Costas’ studio olympic stuff that good? I don’t pay much attention to the olympic studio stuff as its usually filled with fluff stories that don’t interest me all that much.
