Nominate Your Favorite Blogger

Today, Gil Haylon at HockeyBarn.com contacted us about the 2009 Hockey New Media Awards, and invites your nominations!

This past season, HockeyBarn created the HockeyBarn Writers’ Association (HBWA), a community of writers open to all hockey journalists across the blogosphere.

On behalf of the HBWA I am excited to tell you that today we are announcing the “2009 Hockey New Media Awards,” to be presented on June 17 by Hockey Hall of Famer Glenn Anderson.

Nominations can be sent here and must be received by next Tuesday, June 9th.

Press release with full details on prizes and eligibility is below.

The HockeyBarn.com Writers’ Association (HBWA) announces the First Annual “Hockey New Media Awards.” The 2008-2009 awards will be presented by 6-time Stanley Cup Champion and Hockey Hall of Fame legend Glenn Anderson from Las Vegas, Nevada on June 17, 2009. Winners will be selected by a panel of judges that includes Anderson along with veteran writers Scott Taylor, Eric McErlain, and James Mirtle.

“We created these awards to recognize the journalists who are pioneering new media in the hockey industry. These awards are the first ever of their kind,” said HockeyBarn.com Founder and President Josh Schachter. “The hope is that over time they will help to launch the careers of many talented individuals.”

One (1) winner will be selected in each of the following categories:

- Hockey Writer of the Year - Awarded to the top hockey new media journalist
- Rookie Writer of the Year - Presented to the top rising online journalist in the sport
- Hockey Mom/Dad Writer of the Year - Given to the most active hockey journalist who also splits his/her time driving to 5AM practices and state tournaments
- Unsung Hero Award - Given to the writer who has shown dedication and commitment to producing high quality hockey content despite otherwise limited recognition
- Glenn Anderson Leadership in Writing Award - Awarded to the writer who demonstrates a desire to help build and grow the popularity of ice hockey, both throughout North America and across the globe

Bingo.  I declare a ‘Howard Stern voting for Sanjaya’ movement to start.

Let’s make this happen.

My nomination, as an example:

“We all read blogs, but we read them for many different reasons.  Some blogs are read for a laugh, some to inform us, others perhaps to scratch some particular itch or another, and yet others because in their luminescent prose we derive nothing but pleasure.

Very rarely, however, is a blog written which fills all of those so completely and generously as the one titled ‘The Puck Stops Here’.  Although we don’t yet have a name for the burgeoning talent who so extravagantly gives of his prodigious gift, and there’s little explanation as to why an author so deft, so far-thinking and so toweringly knowledgeble limits himself to merely pontificating about the the NHL when his words would prove such an aid in far greater matters, I feel at the very least he ought to recieve the HockeyBarn Online Writer Award, although such an honor would be but an infinitessimal repayment for the pleasure I have recieved from his writing.”

I’m just happy to learn that email was legit.  I almost sent it to Gmail’s spam folder because no one ever sends me real email through my SNN address.  It was weird.

tpsh is the only blogger i know who can repeat the exact same thing 8 times in a row with different words and call it a blog/article.  For example, if the redwings beat the [ems 2 more times, they will win the stanley cup.  However, if the wings can defeat the pens twice more, they will most likely win the cup. Yet, if they score more goals then the pens in at least 2 the next 5 games, they will assuredly win the cup.  this is because, in hockey, you win by scoring more goals then the opposing team.  And because, the wings won the last cup, and were also the last team to repeat as champions in consecutive years, they will most likely win the cup.  it should also be noted that if osgood, lets in less goals then fleury, they will also most likely win, im not sure on that tho.-TPSH

Whatever. The prizes aren’t even really prizes. And the Hockeybarn is boring. Let’s create our own awards.
