Not Going There

from Bruce Dowbiggin of the Globe and Mail,

...And when Lidstrom appeared tired and mistake-prone in the Final against Pittsburgh, questions were raised again about his fitness to play. Was it an ankle? A knee? Under the NHL’s Orwellian injury disclosure policy, a postal-code approximation of the hurt was all that was given to the media.

Actually, Lidstrom had a damaged testicle from being pitch-forked by Chicago’s Patrick Sharp in Game 3 of the Western final. He needed all the time between the cheap shot and Game One of the final to rehabthe injury. As Paul Harvey used to say, “Now you know the rest of the story”.

While it’s considerate to Lidstrom that such an . . . er, intimate injury be hushed up, the cover-up damages the league’s credibility in several ways.

A damaged testicle. An injury that could never happen to Sidney Crosby.

A sore vagina, now that’s another story.

Red Winger, I know you are a passionate Wings fan and fully understand, but comments like that will only lead to bad things.

The Hockey section of KK is not for stuff like that. If you want to talk about your team or provide analysis, fine with me, but stuff like above adds nothing in my opinion.

You also have the choice of writing your own blog at the KK Members section, where just about anything goes.

Thanks.

Paul, thank you for saying something…i’ve been hesitant to come on many of these stories, and usually every comments section is littered (no pun intended) with that cat photo followed by uneducated rude comments by redwinger.

i’m all for fans sticking up for their teams, i do it myself, but when articles dont even mention Crosby why do some people always find a way to get a dig in?  these are the comments that have led me to remove this site from my “favorites” unfortunatly.  Not for the reason they’re expressing their opinions, but i always seem to get dragged into asking what the relevance is on them, i cant help it.

Well ... at least he already has his family.  That’s something, anyway.  wink

(And how exactly would one “rehab” a testicle?  I don’t think I want to know!)

And as a fan, I don’t care if I know exactly what a player’s injury is - especially since some fans are going to rip them for “not playing with pain” even if they do know exactly what it is, just because they are morons.  The reason the NFL is the “gold standard for injury disclosure” is so no one can have inside information when gambling, not to be fan-friendly.  I think the media is more bothered by the injury policy than any of the fans are.

(And as an aside, RedWinger - injuries to the vagina can be very painful and serious, and lead to dangerous infections.  They really aren’t anything to laugh about.)

That’s your loss, then.  There are people here who annoy the heck out of me, too - but I ignore them, because I’m not going to let some random person I’ve never met be such an irritant that I don’t get information and conversation that I enjoy in spite of them.  You really shouldn’t let other people get to you to the point that they have a degree of control over your own actions.
