Not The Way The Canucks Planned To Start

from Ian MacIntyre of the Vancouver Sun,
Do we have to take another dozen years of this? Does Roberto Luongo?
In the first home start since his 12-year contract extension, Roberto Luongo was beaten on four straight shots and hooked after 25 minutes and 51 seconds. His goals-against average this season is 4.55, his save percentage .820 and his record 0-3.
Other than that, nothing is fine.
The Canucks lost 5-3 Monday to the Columbus Blue Jackets and are getting worse defensively by the game. Makes you wonder how bad things might be after four or five games.
added 10:05am, from Ray Ferraro of TSN,
My guess with the Canucks is that they expected a smooth start, and when they fell behind in all three games games, disbelief crippled their effort. A kick in the tail like this can quickly shock the system and help a slightly complacent group get back to work. The key is not to panic and try to do your own job and not everyone elses.

I was watching that game against CBS and after taking an early lead the Nucks stopped pressing so much and just kinda’ coasted. You can’t do that against a HItchcock-coached team and except to escape intact, because he’ll keep waves coming at you until his players drop from exhaustion.

Given the strength of the lineup I’m surprised of their rather passive style, especially when playing at home. Columbus was allowed to dictate the early part of the game. Only when behind 4-1 there was an urgency from Vancouver to play aggressively. It was almost enough to force overtime despite a poor game. Winning at the beginning of the season demands quite a bit of hard work, there’s little room for complacency.
That being said, Mason had another strong game with few mistakes and crucial stops. Nash had three assists but also exhibited bad coverage in his own zone.

All I know is…. Luongo is killing my fantasy hockey team. It’s bad.
Seriously though, The Canucks will figure it out and once Luongo get’s going this team will be in better shape Luongo has been a slow starter the past few years. Between this year and last years start his save percentage for the month of october is in the 8’s.

It’s Tough going from the Hunter to the Hunted that quickly & the Canucks & their fans are finding this out
In the Long run they’ll be OK, But Vigneault has to go & so does the close to the vest style he has them playing
