from Mark Whicker of the OC Register,
Just as soon as the truck was about to be backed up, the Ducks started driving.
And among fans and club insiders, the reaction to this 6-0-1 spurt is suspicion, as if the carpenter you just hired has two missing fingers.
Reactions to the Ducks run the gamut from “Why now?” to “Where have you been?” to “Who are you?”
That final question stares at general manager Bob Murray with 38 days to the trade deadline, and with Ottawa, a team that sports a Norris Trophy contender (Erik Karlsson) and a Jack Adams candidate (ex-Ducks assistant coach Paul MacLean), arriving Saturday afternoon.
“It’s a much better brand of hockey,” Murray said, hours before the Ducks dismissed Phoenix Wednesday and climbed to 9-9-3 with Bruce Boudreau coaching.
“But it’s only been for a short time. All summer long you worry about things. What’s the effect of Corey (Perry) winning the Hart Trophy? Will Cam (Fowler) have a sophomore jinx? Will Jonas (Hiller) come back? And everything you worried about happened. It’s no fun losing, especially with Teemu (Selanne) down there. You want them to enjoy it.”
