For U.S. fans, if you are lucky enough to get CBC, set the DVRs…
from the Hockey News,
If you are old enough to remember watching the Summit Series in 1972, or at the very least, understand the significance of the first meeting between NHLers and the world’s best international team from the Soviet Union, then the CBC’s Canada Russia ‘72 is a must-see.
Canada Russia ‘72 is an insider’s peak into the series that left an undeniable stamp on the game. Canada won the series, but was outscored and handed a lesson in skill and preparation that changed the way Canadians train for and play the game.
from the Detroit Free Press,
Phil Esposito’s us-against-the-world moment comes as Team Canada players gather around Wayne Cashman’s hospital bed.
“I don’t know, boys, we’re in a foreign land here, thousands of miles from home, losing the biggest hockey series in the history of the world, and just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, we’ve been deserted,” says Esposito.
“So I say here’s to us and screw the rest of them. Screw the Swedes and the Russians, and screw the people back home who hate us. Screw the media and the government. And screw the referees, Cash, especially screw the referees. Did I leave anyone out?”
