Since when are the Griffins the AHL affiliate of the Capitals?

Yeah...this can’t be right. Conditioning is in the AHL. That’s the hershey bears. Grand Rapids is Detroit’s AHL affiliate...maybe this is a loan assignment (happens somewhat). They’ve really screwed the pooch with this guy and I feel sorry for him because if he DIDN’T sign that contract with washington a lot of teams could use him. He’s still got some juice and is a top 30 set up man in the league. If I were him I’d do the same...make the Caps eat the contract until it expires...really...they’ll play a guy like Fleishmann over him? Really?!? If position is such an issue make him play wing for Christ’s sake!

They sent him to Grand Rapids so that he doesn’t take up a roster spot that a prospect might otherwise be holding. By giving him a conditioning stint, he’s playing. With him playing, that means possible trade or transfer to a KHL team comes sooner. Alot of KHL teams are concerned over his conditioning since he hasn’t played.

According to Wings beat writer Bruce MacLeod, Nylander has a no-movement clause and agreed to GR plus the Caps as stated earlier, didn’t want to take ice time away from prospects.

Oh, the old no movement clause, eh.
Looks like Nylander might be trying to fanagle his way into the Red Wings line-up. He’s already made it into the organ-I-zation (sort of).

...didn’t want to take ice time away from prospects (in Hershey).
Hey, the Griffins will take any help they can get. Right now, they’re playing worse than the Wings. Both Larsson and McCollum have been shelled harder than the Normandy beaches on D-Day. I’m sure that any extra goals Nylander can provide will be gratefully received,
