“Obscene Display Of Officiating”

Larry Brooks of the NY Post on the penalty call against Orr last night…

They overcame an obscene display of officiating from a four-man unit that had no control of the match at all, and simply invented a major penalty against Colton Orr midway through the second period when he caught Matt Cullen carrying the puck with his head down cutting from right to left in the offensive zone and sent him to the ice face-first in a collision that could not be avoided.

“It was scary,” Stillman said. “First I’m playing the puck, and then I see him laying there. I was just asking if he was OK. He was talking by the time I got there. Just, ‘Stay there, are you OK?’ and ‘No, I don’t feel good.’ “

Cullen, who was unavailable for comment after the game, suffered a broken nose and was being examined for a possible concussion.

“It’s hard to say,” Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette said. “A mild one, maybe. I’m not sure.”
