Observations At The Wings Game

I attended the Wings/Flyers game tonight at JLA and Philly looked like a tired team. Playing last night in Chicago and being on the road for the longest road trip in NHL history had to make this a tough game for them.
Wings scored five goals in the 3rd period and won 6-3.
Nittymaki is a good, young goalie, but the Wings game plan was to shoot high all night long and it worked. The Wings actually had a game down low and it paid off for them.
Nice to see Yzerman pass Gordie in all-time assists, he received a standing O for the accomplishment and Steve looks to be improving his game more and more everyday. If used correctly, he will be a positive when the playoffs roll around.
Zetterberg returned to the wing and formed a line with Shanahan and Datsyuk. Shanny had four helpers, Datsyuk and Z were 2/2 giving the line a total of 12 points.
Again, Philly was on the last leg of a road trip that started on December 23rd, looked fatigued at times and did not play as well as they can. Wings on the other hand, looked like the dominant team and a good win leading up to the NBC game againt the NYR on Saturday afternoon.

I watched the game on TV and could tell early it wasn’t the Flyers’ night. The inability to cash in on the early power plays was something the Philly announcers emphasized over and over as likely to hurt them later, and it did. As you point out, Paul, the Flyers were tired and in the eleventh of eleven straight road games, so the deck was stacked against ‘em even more than it usually is at JLA (last win in 1988). I don’t think a fresh Flyers team would win there, but it’d be closer, say 3-2 instead of the late blowout. Still, the Flyers did really well on the road trip, and I don’t think anyone would be surprised to see these two teams playing again in June. And hopefully, the Flyers would win one this time.

Good to know kdog1.
OK with me BC, Wings will let them win one this time at the Joe. As long as the Cup returns to Detroit.
You just may be right, Ottawa looks to be coming down to earth. It is going to be a good second half and the playoffs will be a lot of fun this year.

Hah! Let ‘em win one in Philly first, then they can worry about winning one at the Joe. Of course, they should worry about making it to the Finals first.
I was at the Dec. 22 game against the Sens (last home game before the road trip). The Sens fell behind 4-0 early and lost 4-3. They never quit, and just fell short. They’ll be formidable foes for the Flyers, but I just can’t fear them the way I do the Devils, even though the Flyers have lost twice to the Sens in the playoffs, and finally beat the Devils last time. I like their chances against the Sens, but I hope they never have to take Exit 16W in the playoffs for years to come.

Speaking of NBC, it looks they won’t have “exclusive windows” on saturday games. I looked at the Center Ice listings and all 3 games are listed with the local game blacked out.
