The latest interview is with Eric McErlain of Off Wing Opinion. Piano-bar peformers don’t tickle a keyboard as much as McErlain, 39, of Reston, Va. He’s been blogging since 2001, practically since the blog format grew little tiny legs and crawled out of the primordial ooze of the dialup-era web…
But it wasn’t long before a couple of folks, Dubi Silverstein and Jes Golbez in particular, started to question just what he was filling the vaccuum with. When you take a look at those early analyses, it’s pretty clear that Eklund’s brew was a mixture of 30% previously reported news and 70% baloney. When folks started to point out his errors online, he would respond by disabling comments on his blog or simply erasing content altogether.
One of the ways that Eklund drew people into his blog—and began charging them for access—was by constructing a farcical backstory of how he had become an NHL insider thanks to a long career working for a number of teams, the league and as a freelance hockey writer. When I, among others, challenged the particulars, he simply erased it all and constructed a new one….
