Offensive Production Needed In Calgary

from Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun,
Pre-season pundits predicted goal scoring would be the club’s Achilles heel, and those predictions have been front and centre the past handful of games.
“We’re not going to worry about that. We’ve got enough offence in this room,” said centre Daymond Langkow. “We’re going to keep focusing on the defensive side of it, and have to be better there—40 shots against last (game) isn’t good enough.”...
However, the dearth of offence is starting to become an issue. Goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff was outstanding in those three losses and gave his team a chance to win each time, but there wasn’t enough offensive support.
“That Minnesota game, it was a stinker of a game for us,” said head coach Brent Sutter. “It wasn’t so much what we did with the puck or the offensive part, it’s how we played defensively. That affected us offensively.
“Look at how many offensive chances we got. We didn’t get many because our team game wasn’t very good. It goes hand-in-hand. Play a really good team game, be responsible on both sides of the puck, good defensively and then you’ll be good enough offensively. We didn’t have offence because we weren’t good enough defensively.
