Edmonton billionaire Daryl Katz spoke to the media today.
From the CP via TSN:
Minutes before the news conference, the Oilers latest hopes of landing a marquee forward were dashed when word surfaced that Marian Hossa had signed a one-year deal with Detroit.
But Katz simply smiled as he talked about the excitement of working this week with Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe as they bid for Hossa to give Edmonton some much-needed scoring punch.
“We’ve had a lot of fun,” he said. “The experience of pursuing Marian was great for us and it won’t be the last time.”

All things considered, it was probably a lot more “fun” for Katz than for Kevin Lowe.

“We’ve had a lot of fun,” (Katz) said. “The experience of pursuing Marian was great for us and it won’t be the last time.”
And next year at this time, you can have just as much “fun” watching Ken The Magician steal him away from you again for a few million less than you offer. In fact, it’ll be so much fun you’ll actually think you’re making progress by losing top players who don’t want to play for you...no matter how much you’re willing to pay them.
“Wheeee. We lost another guy to the Wings. This is sooooooo much fun!”
Idiot!

Yeah, well, there’s a huge difference between pursuing and signing, and being shot down just to see the target sign for $2.5M less to play south of the border. Just maybe there is something to this “Hockeytown” concept.
