I feel bad for her little girl… dragging her out there in front of a crowd where she knew it was a possibility that she was going to be booed is reprehensible. Philly fans booed SANTA for crying out loud. And I don’t care what your politics are, it’s just bad form to use your kids as props.
I can’t stand it when people mix politics and sports. I watch hockey to escape all that bull——.

she had zero business being there. she was only there because snider is an mccain donor and hardcore right winger.

flyersfan - She also apparently knows nothing about hockey for all she pushes her hockeymom-ness. Last month in Philly she tried to wear a Rangers jersey when she left her hotel for a jog around town. Now, I’m a Wings fan but I would think you’d have to be a moron to wear a Rangers jersey in Philly.

Well, 2 of the 3 Alaskans in the NHL are Rangers. She probably knows that.

I can’t even hear anything on that video, that audio is terrible, did anyone see it on TV and hear what actually happened? was she booed, was she cheered, was it mixed?

I watched it on MSG’s feed on Center Ice. She was pretty loudly booed. But the arena kept cranking up the music to cover it.

the point i am trying to make is that you don’t mix an presidential election politics into sports in general. this was done on purpose.

stuff like this happens in every city. would a Yankee fan wear an Yankee jersey in Boston?
Posted by FlyersFan on 10/11/08 at 08:29 PM ET
How do you know the little girl didn’t ask to go on the ice? Besides Kerry threw out the first pitch in Boston during the last election. At least she likes hockey name another american pol whose can say that ! Chill out , if it been O. it would have been portrayed as the greatest thing!

At least both the Flyers and Rangers players had a modicum of respect for the ocassion. But, once again, the Obama supporters have shown that they only respect those who believe exactly what they believe in.
The only positive thing I can say about the comments here is that some Obama supporter dodn’t call Palin’s duaghter is a “skank”. Way to step up and take the high ground, folks. America can really be proud of the constituency that’s about to take power. You actually know not to rag on the children of those you oppose. Classy. Real classy.

Just so we’re clear…

Ok first of alll, Kerry was a grown man. So no big deal. Palin’s daughters aren’t even old enough to consent legally in most states (to ANYTHING). So as a parent, I think I’d leave them home.

the reason it’s issue because the owner is active member in republican party and he’s trying to push it down his fan base throats. they didn’t have this contest in the first place until palin was announce on to McCain’s ticket. i don’t know how the nhl let this happen.
if people want to know how hardcore ed snider is, read this blog

Governor Palin has made it a practice to use her children as props in this campaign:
The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, “How dare they boo Piper!”

My own opinion is that politicians can lie just fine to the American public using technology such as television, so considering that all they do is gum up the works for regular people with their security and entourages and staff, it would be best for the public if they stay out of the way and let everyone else go about their business without having to go through extra security at a workplace because some political suit is making a speech or have to detour out of their way because streets are closed off for some stupid motorcade.

And Mccain supporters respect those who don’t believe in what they believe in?
Point 1.
Homosexuals are considered the “devil” by most republicans.
Point 2.
ALL Muslims are terrorists according to a lot of McCain supports. A lot, not all.
Point 3.
Not only are homosexuals the devil, but they do not deserve the same rights as a hetrosexual couple, not just marraige, but ANY rights.
Point 4.
To the “religious right”, if you aren’t a Christian, there is something wrong with you, and you have no morals according to most of the “religious right”
OTC, I’ve really tried to stay out of these political posts, but what you wrote was simply the dumbest thing i have ever read in my life. Over the past couple days, reading all these posts, I have come to the conclusion that you are the single most ignorant person I have ever had the pleasure of talking to. You say things like “the Obama supporters have shown that they only respect those who believe exactly what they believe in.” but yet you go on to show that you have absolutely no respect for ANYONE who isn’t a right wing freaking nut job. There is no problem with being a Republican or liking McCain and Palin. But there is a HUGE problem with being a single viewed ignorant piece of trash who never listens to anyones views because after all, you are always right, so there is no reason to listen to other peoples views. You go crazy on ANYONE who says the Palin dropping the puck thing is a bad idea, even if what they are saying has nothing to do with hating Palin, they are simply stating that it is wrong for a politician to do these sort of events.
You not only give Republicans a bad name, but you give Americans a bad name. I am ashamed to live in a country with people as narrow minded as yourself, and scared that people like you are allowed to vote.

She walked onto the ice, shook a couple of hands and dropped a puck. This is what people are upset at? Is it really all that different than a celebrity throwing out the first pitch or singing take me out to the ball game at Wrigley Field? I highly doubt that minds were changed because of a cerimonial puck drop.
Now, if the blogger from philly is so dead against politics in sports, I hope he supports the banning of all political figures of all levels (including sitting presidents) from throwing out the first pitch and the outright ban of playing national anthems at the start of sporting events at all levels. Otherwise, his opinion is based solely upon a political position he is against rather than the concept of politics in general.

I’m a bit confused here. I was under the impression that we were all angry, hatefilled human beings, so I am wondering why it is a big deal that someone got booed. Is it just because some people care so much about Sarah Palin that they have to defend her and coddle her? She seems pretty tough to me.
I agree with the posters above that taking her children out on the ice was probably not the smartest move, but whatever. There’s no NHL team in Alaska. Enjoy the celeb life while you have it, no?
But seriously…come on. As hockey fans, we boo everything. I am a wings fan and absolutely hate the ducks. I see that jersey, and I just want to punch something. You had better believe that anytime chris pronger comes on the ice, i’m going to boo him. I hate him with a passion. I’ve hated him for a very long time. And if the wings were sold to a duck lover, and he decided to start off a game with a cermonial puck drop by Chris Pronger, while Chris Pronger was an active member of the ducks…oh hell no. Does that mean I think he is an awful human being? Nope. I bet he is a fine member of his community, who does everything he can to help better it. Probably a loving, caring person. I wouldn’t shank him in a dark alley if given a chance.
People shouldn’t make the assumption that because we hate the team that another player plays for, that we automatically hate that player as a human being, and would spit on their children if given the opportunity.
If someone wants to boo or applaud any politician they want, that is okay. Besides, I seem to recall during the republican convention some nice folks mentioning the name Obama. I think the reaction was “booooooo”. Same with the democratic convention. Imagine had Obama walked out during the republican covention, and said nothing but, “I’m just here showing off my face.” Probably would not have been the warmest reception.
When you go into hostile territory, this is what happens. Deal with it.

I have come to the conclusion that you are the single most ignorant person I have ever had the pleasure of talking to.
I stated an opinion about the intollerance of the Obama supporters that I’ve seen here, Kevin. I didn’t call anyone names. And I haven’t gone “crazy” on anyone who stated a differing opionion. You’re the one going “postal” here. In fact, the nature of your response proves the very point I was making about Obama supporters being intollerant of others.
As I said in another thread: The one thing that has stood out for me in the “discourse” that this event has generated in the past week is (surprisingly) the intollerant attitude of the Obama supporters. I think even Obama himself would be surprised at this. His whole “mantra” has been tolerance.
And just for the record, Kevin, I’m not only not a right-wing “freaking nut job”, I’m not even a Republican. I’ve voted Democratic more often than not in my life, and I was active in the civil rights movement in the 1960’s, probably long before you were born. So take a chill pill, young man, and try to relax. This will all be over in a few weeks and we can go back to ragging on one another’s hockey teams.
