Old Sharks Show Up

from Mark Purdy of the Mercury News,
On a Sunday night that will live in franchise infamy, the Sharks repeated their familiar and lousy act of playoffs past. They wasted away their excellence. Again. They didn’t respond well to a physical challenge. Again.
And they are halfway to an early playoff exit. Again.
“We got off to a fantastic start,” Joe Thornton said, “but we just didn’t really play well from then on in.”
They didn’t really play well?
Here’s a better phrase: They totally and completely blew it.

Because here is the biggest thing we learned Sunday: The Sharks have not learned. Anything. Anything at all.
That was what I thought when I read the account of the game.
Build an amazingly quick three-goal lead on the road, quiet the crowd, get the goaltender pulled - and then the opponent nibbles away at the lead until they wind up with a loss. No matter how many times they get picked as a Cup favorite, they do this in the playoffs every year. Once or twice the “young and inexperienced” excuse will fly - but this year they are relatively healthy, incredibly hot at the end of the year, awesome record on the road - and STILL flop in the playoffs.
This team is the epitome of befuddling.

This is like the Ottawa Senators of old for the Western Conference. These Sharks are NOT playing like the Pacific Division Champions or any Champions for that matter.
The most idiotic loss in recent memory. Marleau got nailed twice (and while I agree they were nice, clean hits), nobody stuck up for him. They let it slide and that turned the momentum to the Flames. Why do I stay up till midnight to watch these games? Because I thought the Sharks were a great team. They proved me wrong on this one.
This is the team that pulled off an 20 game point streak> I think not.

OUCH!! That is going to leave a mark!! Sharks ripped in the paper by Mr. Purdy nearly as bad as they got drilled last night in Calgary.
Purdy pulls no punches. He and Helene Elliott, of the LA Times, must have a side wager to determine which of their teams tanks first, and who could write the most scathing article.
YIKES!! I wonder if Coach Wilson was able to muster any more harsh comments after the game than those.
