from Martin Fennelly of the Tampa Tribune,
The Lightning offices are Yeehaw Junction, and the two leading yeehaws are so fouled up they needed to go to the principal’s office to figure out just who is in charge when it comes to team-related decisions. Yeah, a power struggle is just what the doctor ordered to send confidence right down your spine, isn’t it?...
Is this the beginning of the end?
I’m not against trading Vinny out of hand. Anyone can be traded. Hey, Wayne Gretzky was at very nearly the height of his Gretzky-ness. But the fear, the real fear, is that the Lightning, as run by Koules and Lawton, won’t get nearly what Vinny should command: a No. 1 defenseman, a scoring forward, assorted other players or prospects.
If you’re going to deal him, you better get the farm.
I’m not seeing it with these guys.

Agreed. Tampa can’t really afford to keep him, especially if they don’t want to spend upwards towards the max cap. However, I have a funny feeling someone will overpay for him. That being said if the Habs send Markov in the Vinny deal it’ll be a disaster for Montreal.

No one trades players anymore - all they trade are contracts.
The Lecavalier contract will be difficult to move at all, and they won’t get the players they need back. They just won’t.

This guys main problem is that players aren’t traded based on how good they are, they are traded based on how good they are compared to how much they cost. There is no way Lecavalier should get a #1 dman and a bunch of other stuff, because Vinny’s contract is an accurate representation of his worth as a player (if not slightly overpaying him) so the Lightning will essentially be ‘paying’ to get rid of that insanely-termed deal.
