Ortmeyer May Be Out Of Rangers Plans

from the Record,

Tom Renney said Wednesday during the team’s Prospect Development Camp that while he understands the business could force Ortmeyer to sign elsewhere, he’s not ruling him out of his plans just yet.
“I’ll consider him a New York Ranger until he signs somewhere else,” Renney said of Ortmeyer, who played in 50 games, including 9-of-10 in the postseason, after sitting out the first 41 regular-season games while recovering from a pulmonary embolism.
Brendan Shanahan, though, is an unrestricted free agent who figures into the Rangers’ plans. Shanahan, who last year played on a one-year, $4 million contract and turns 39 in January, has said that he intends to return for a 20th NHL season and wants it to be with the Rangers.
“If he’s going to play hockey this year, there isn’t much doubt in anyone’s mind that he wants to play for the New York Rangers,” said Rick Curran, Shanahan’s agent.
