The Devils and restricted free agent Zach Parise have agreed to a one-year, $6 million contract to avoid Wednesday’s salary arbitration hearing in Toronto.
Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said the sides will continue to work with Parise toward a long-term agreement. According to the collective bargaining agreement, Parise will not be allowed to sign a contract beginning in the 2012-13 season until Jan. 1, 2012. The sides can negotiate and agree upon a deal before then, but they cannot sign it or make it official.
Parise remains eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.& Ice,

The Devils will try to extend him during the season. But if they can’t get something done by the trade deadline he will probably be moved. I’d love to see Parise wearing the Winged Wheel either at the deadline or next Summer. Wings will have a lot of cap room to play with next summer. Obviously other teams will also be coming hard after Parise.

$6M, eh? Seems like that’s what the Wings have available in cap space for a possible deadline deal.

They would only need the prorated amount not the full 6 million.
