Note 5:33pm, I will be adding to this post, so make sure to check the permalink page on occasion. Also, Jaci at Wicked Bruins Fan was live blogging the game and is updating as information becomes available.
5:35pm, Video added on the permalink page.
5:55pm, Randy Jones issues a statement, found at the bottom of the post, go to the permalink page…
Bergeron was hit from behind by Randy Jones. He was stablized on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.
No report yet… You can follow along at this thread on HFBoards...
added 5:16pm, TSN report...
added 5:19pm, from the Sports Ticker via Yahoo,
Bergeron was in the offensive zone and had just passed the puck when Jones checked him from behind, crashing Bergeron headfirst into the glass and metal divider.
Bergeron lay motionless for 10 minutes while team doctor Thomas Gill tended to him. Gill and Bruins trainers worked to get the assistant captain on a flat support before lifting him onto a gurney.
The crowd gave Bergeron an ovation as he was taken off the ice and to an ambulance to be taken to a local hospital.
Jones was given a five-minute boarding penalty with a game misconduct.
added 5:24pm. from the AP via NHL.com,
Medical personnel cut away Bergeron’s jersey and shoulder pads as they worked on him, placing his neck in a brace. They placed him on a board and then onto a stretcher, his legs taped together and his arms folded across his chest. There was little sign of movement. The game was delayed some 15 minutes with 3:53 left in the first period.
Bergeron and Jones were chasing a loose puck when Bergeron took the hit in the back and hit the glass face-first. He went down on the ice on his back and lay virtually motionless as Jones continued pursuing the puck. As the whistle blew, Boston’s Chuck Kobasew went after Jones, drawing a roughing penalty
added 5:55pm, via the Philadelphia Flyers,
Flyers defenseman Randy Jones issued the following statement during the Flyers-Boston Bruins game on Saturday at the TD Banknorth Garden. Jones was issued a boarding major and game misconduct after hitting Boston’s Patrice Bergeron, who had to be helped off of the ice in a stretcher in the first period of the game.
“Words really can’t express the way that I feel right now. I am very apologetic for the hit and what I did. It was not intentional. It is something that I have never done before and it is not part of my character. I am extremely sorry. I hope he does ok and everything works out for him. I wish him nothing but the best in his recovery.”
In 10 games this season, Jones has one goal and five assist for six points and 21 penalty minutes. He entered Saturday’s game tied for a team-high +8 rating.
added 6:45pm, TSN has a video up too…
added 6:55pm, Glen Murry on the NESN post game show said Bergeron was talking when he was being wheeled off the ice. Murray hopes everthing will be ok.
added 7:03 pm, Claude Julien on the hit- No room for that type of hit, intentional or non-intentential or not. Something has to be done, the 3rd time this year the Flyers have been involved in that type of hit.
NESN just updated… Concussion and broken nose, has full movement.

FlyerFan, you are once again making yourself look very foolish at a time like this.
You are much better off not writing anything at this point.

Thank you for saying something to him Paul he’s ridiculous.

well, if you had access to the flyers feed, they showed a replay inwhich Bergeron stopped skating and turned his head around and saw jones coming..
im trying to tell the truth here.

Dude, he was chasing the puck down, as was his responsibility. What was he supposed to do, concede the puck to Jones? Jones’ hit was completely unnecessary as well as indefensible, and he bears the blame for it, not Bergeron.

Bergeron was clearly looking for the 2min penatly there. it was the same exact play that occured in fla-ott game last saturday.

c’mon, pack it and just stop it FlyersFan. You made the same stupid point over and over.
I hope Patrice is ok, what a scary incident.

According to Jaci, his parents were at the game. What a horrible thing to see happen to your son. At least they can go to the hospital with him and aren’t waiting by the phone to find out how he is.
I hope Bergeron will be alright. He’s a fun young player to watch.

FlyerFan- One thing I ask is to keep your comments on topic.
If you wish to discuss that topic, take it to the KK Forum and create a thread for it.

Very good news that it’s only a broken nose and concussion. Bruins fans are relieved right now. Thanks for the great updates Paul!

Good to know he has full movement hope for a speedy recovery.
Posted by Bethany on 10/27/07 at 06:13 PM ET
Yes Jaci, it is very good news. I sort of had the feeling when Murray was being interviewed, he had a sense everything was going to be ok.
Paul, have no fear, most of the KK readers know exactly what you are talking about.

Flyersfan does his past history justify being hit from behind? man you look stupid right now

Quit watching the game of hockey you clearly don’t have a clear concept or the basic know how of the NHL to to comment on it.

I hate to tell you how to run your site, Paul, but you really are going to have to consider banning FlyersFan. His idiocy threatens to drag the site down into the garbage with him. Every time he posts, the site’s credibility erodes a little more. Every site reaches a point where one poster threatens to become larger than the site and overwhelm it, to the site’s deteriment, and to the detriment of all the other users. FlyersFan is very near to pushing this site over that precipice.

Blackcloud, I understand where you are coming from and will handle FF internally.
I don’t have a problem with people expressing their views, as long as they back them with some relevant material.
I have no way of reaching FF, but do hope he reads what is being written about him.
It could be KK is just not for him.

If you ban him, then the terrorists have already won.
Posted by J.Truant on 10/27/07 at 08:00 PM ET
Bruins owner Jeremy Jacobs heads up the owners’ committee, correct? With luck, this will spur some action on the league level beyond suspending Jones for 10-20 games. The time has come to make the coach, GM and owner of the Flyers pay fines for not having control over their players.
Posted by cambo from Vancouver on 10/28/07 at 03:39 AM ET
I don’t think he meant to hurt him, and I don’t think there was intent to throw a “dirty” hit there. Still, a message has to be sent that intentional or not, you’re responsible for keeping things clean, even in the heat of battle.

Before anyoen wants to defend Bergeron, lets go back in history

Bergeron looked right at Jones before he stopped and faced the boards. Idiot. What do you expect? Looks like he trying to draw a penalty.
Why do players go into the boards like that. You know you’re going to get hit, be prepared for it. Keep you head up and brace yourself.
I hate when these fools turn their backs to play and face the boards. I’m not saying he deserves it but come on. Players are getting hurt for doing stupid things…
Flyers will once again made the poster child by the NHL….
