From Jesse Rogers at ESPN:
Despite saying good-bye to three teammates who helped them win a Stanley Cup, at least two Chicago Blackhawks understand why Troy Brouwer, Brian Campbell and Tomas Kopecky were cut loose in favor of some tougher, older players.
“We’ve added some things that will help us win again,” Patrick Kane said Wednesday. “That’s the most important thing.
“You can have those relationships, and it’s always nice to have those, but we’re here to win hockey games. You see some of the players we added. You get a lot of grit, some experience, some maturity.”

“I don’t think you can have ever have more than enough [toughness], especially on our team,” Kane said.
So says $0.20 who beat up on an older taxi cab driver in his hometown of Buffalo, NY.

Kane is not a tough guy. And he’s not mature. It is funny that he would bring up those two things in this interview.
I remember in the Vancouver series he got hit hard in the waning minutes of a losing game and he sat there on one knee sort of looking shocked that he just took a hit and finally a teammate skated by and gave him a tap on the back to tell him to get the hell off the ice asap. Basically, he took a hit and wasted 20 seconds getting off the ice at a critical time. And that was the game when Toews scored very late to send it to OT and basically took it all on his shoulders to score late, taking the puck in and crashing the net very impressively. I can’t remember who won that game, not that it matters now.
I am anything but a Blackhawks fan but Toews is an awesome NHL player, a real leader and a guy who gives it 100%. He’s the first guy I can honestly say reminds me of Yzerman in those ways, though he’s got a long way to go really fit that comparison. Kane looks like a kid with talent that would rather be doing something else.
