MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens General Manager Bob Gainey announced today the signing of defenseman Paul Mara to a one-year contract for the 2009-10 season. As per Club policy, financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
“Paul Mara will bring size and experience to our group of defensemen. He can contribute to all facets of the game”, said Bob Gainey.

Sloppy thirds for the Habs… first Gomez, then Pearn and now Mara. Mara was a good guy. I’ll miss him on the Rangers.

Why don’t we just get Burke and Gainey into a cage and let them settle this man to man, once and for all?

Paul Mara, a player who actually wanted to be a Ranger and took less money last year to remain one, gets to try out another Original Six team because the Rangers spent too much money on a few players who had barely more than an impact than he did. Plus, he was one of the only guys who would actually say the truth in an interview rather than the company line, some dumb cliche, or a bunch of words that amounted to nothing.
Thanks, Mara. You might not have been the best d-man, but you were more fun to watch than some of those other bums.
