Pens/Caps Ratings

from Puck The Media,

According to Sports Business Journal,  NBC’s telecast of the Penguins/Capitals game on Sunday drew a 1.1/3 overnight rating.  It ties Rangers/Penguins (1/18/08) and Red Wings/Penguins (2/8/08) for the highest indoor rating NBC’s drawn this season.  The only comparable game from last year is the March 2nd Rangers/Flyers broadcast, which also drew a 1.1 rating.

The Pens have some issues they’re just going to have to resolve if they want to make the tourney.  The Caps are in like Flint.  I like the nastiness brewing between the two clubs.  To the Caps, the Pens are enemy #1.  Unfortunately for the Caps, they’re probably more like Enemy #4 or #5 on the Pens’ list, behind Philly and both NY’s, at least.

Sidney Crosby bashing has been en vogue for nearly a year, now, but everyone has their turn in the barrel.  I grant you, Sid’s mouth doesn’t help issues.  Mark my words, however, Ovechkin may well find himself the next guy in the crosshairs.  His post-goal demonstrations are becoming more and more animated.  A number of Eastern clubs are growing annoyed at the way he often points at opposing benches after scoring.  This kind of behavior isn’t going to go long before a team (or two) takes it upon themselves to retaliate for the perceived gloating.

And what are other teams going to do?  Try to keep him from scoring? Ha
