Pens Will Probably Say Goodbye To Gonchar

from Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal,
• The Pittsburgh Penguins will probably let their best defender, Sergei Gonchar, walk in July as a free-agent because he’ll be 36 and they’re not giving him $5 million a year for three years. They will make due with Kris Letang, although he’s looking for $4 million, and Alex Goligoski. They have cap issues, like all teams, but can easily dump Ruslan Fedotenko and/or Matt Cooke in the summer to free up some money.
• Do you think the free-spirited Maxim Afinogenov would be on the Russian Olympic team if he hadn’t signed in Atlanta and found himself on Ilya Kovachuk’s line? Me, neither.
