from Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun,
Even before Dion Phaneuf slipped on a Calgary Flames sweater, the predictions were made.
Without even skating in an NHL game, belief was the talented defenceman had a future that included one or more Norris Trophy accolades.
Now, in the midst of his third season, is that a fair belief? Does Phaneuf’s destiny include being the NHL’s best defenceman?
“Oh yeah,” said Flames centre Craig Conroy without flinching. “You look at the guys who are the top defencemen in the league—(Nicklas) Lidstrom, (Chris) Pronger, (Scott) Niedermayer, (Brian) Rafalski, even, is up there. How many are young guys? How many young, young guys can you say that about?

Did anyone see that interview they had with him and Iginla on “The Score”, he looked like a caveman that could hardly string together a sentence let alone more than a grunt. What the heck was that?
lol…I saw that interview, Dion must be taking his cues from Darryl Sutter on how to respond to questions.

Implausible, I know, but I’d gladly give up Brendan Smith for Dion Phaneuf to wear the Wings crest on his chest.

“Now in the midst of his third season..”
Hard to believe it’s only his third season. He plays like a 6-8 year veteran. I hate the flames (Canucks fan) but props to Phaneauf.
