from Chip Alexander of Lord Stanley’s Blog,
The Canes are getting in their last practice at the RBC Center before heading West for two games in L.A.
How about this: Joni Pitkanen on a wing? The defenseman is on a line with Eric Staal and Ray Whitney and is in a forward’s white jersey today.
more and thanks to a KK reader for the pointer…

Two games in L.A.? Not quite. More like 1 game in L.A. and 1 game in Anaheim. They are about 40 miles apart, different cities, different counties.

Next in line for nomination to the forward ranks: Mr. Joe Corvo. Sure, he got the unfortunate “Uh-Oh” Corvo nickname in Ottawa, but more than once watching him jump up to join - or lead - the rush, I found myself wondering what he might be able to do, unhampered by his defensive conscience.

40 miles? thats a load of crap. its more like 20-30 miles and its all urban sprawl around both so theyre not even “separated”. have you ever even been there? and the comment from the fake Oilers fan obviously didnt watch Pitkanen last year cause he was one of the best defenseman on the Oilers going up against tough competition. he always made his way back to his spot too with his exceptional skating.

There’s an update to that blog post where they basically deny Pitkanen will play forward. Apparently it was just as a temp fill-in for Ruutu who’s still being affected by the groin/hip/whatever injury he’s had for a few weeks.
I tell you what - if Pitkanen does end up at forward for any length of time there will be a lot of pissed off Canes fans. There’s no way you can trade Cole for Pitkanen, then put Pitkanen on a wing.

I often wonder why offence-first riverboat gamblers like Pitkanen aren’t given more time on the forward lines, instead of being an obvious liability on the back end.
