Pittsburgh With 5 Unanswered Goals, Moves On To Eastern Conference Semi-Finals

The turning point of the game, Flyers up 3-0, Maxime Talbot of the Penguins battles Daniel Carcillo of the Flyers and Penguins go to work from then on.

One of the examples of why fighting needs to stay in the game.  This fight had some meaning.

Daniel Carcillo fight didnt zero impact on this result. this game just epitomize the flyers inconsisitancy all year long. they shut it down after a three goal lead. the fedentenko goal showed it. i thought this game turned when flyers started to take stupid pentalies after the fight.

thank god i dont look at biron anymore.

And yet more mindless nonsense from FF.

Would that we could all say the same for you.

As for the game, the fight absolutely energized the Penguins…not because Talbot won the fight (which he clearly didn’t), but because it changed the focus of the game. Philly had the focus, and they were running away with the game. After the fight, everyone’s attention shifted. From that point on, the Pens played like champions and Biron played like garbage.

The best part of this win is that it keeps alive the prospect of having a Wings-Pens repeat matchup in the Finals this year. I think a Hossa goal in Game 4 that cements a Wings sweep would be a great way for this season to end. smile

Actually, a better way for th season to end would be with the Pens winning against Detroit, after Hossa left the Pens because he had a better chance of winning the cup in Detroit.  That would be sweet.

I gotta agree with FlyersFan on this one.  Giving the Talbot fight credit for turning around the game is silly.  You may as well credit Fleury for allowing the goal that sparked the fight.  It was Malkin’s great individual effort on the Penguins first goal is what started the comeback.

Also, saying that fighting should stay in hockey because a fight impacted the game is a poor argument.  Deliberately injuring the other team’s players will have an impact on a game, too, but that shouldn’t be part of hockey.

However, fighting should definitely stay in the game.  It’s part of the history and character of the game.

i think game change when flyers started taking penatlies when it became 3-1. pens got two bounces in the air. flyers all year could sustained mometuem in game and inconsistent biron all year. I wasnt surprised by the result. today’s game was common theme this year for flyers.

i wouldnt be surprised two things happens: 1) One of the core players carter, lupul, richard, hartnell is traded and 2) john stevens getting fired rumors starts to heat up.

No way Carter or Richards is traded. Lupul and Hartnell are expendable.  Richards looked wiped out in this series. I’d love to know his faceoff percentage against Crosby, as that’s a good example of how done he was.  A lot has been said of Stevens overusing Richards and this series seems to be the proof.  I also think Stevens misused Carter.  46 goals this season was no fluke, but he was invisible for large parts of the series.
Gotta be a crushing defeat to the flyers, but the good news for them is that the best player on their team through the series was the rookie Giroux. This series actually reminded me of the Flyers/Caps last year, when I thought the Caps were on average the better team but lost. The Flyers were probably better than the Pens more than half the time this series.
I also hope this series puts some of the “Crosby is a whiny baby” crap to rest.  The guy is the real deal and getting better.  He doesn’t back down from anything and he goes right into the tough spots.  He doesn’t shoot or hit or typically drive to the net to the degree Ovechkin does, or dangle like Datsyuk, but he’s a dominating player that is also becoming a well rounded player and a leader.  Hate him, but enjoy what you’re watching.
And…whether its a total coincidence or not, the game was different after the fight.  Carcillo is another idiot in orange.  Is that Talbot I hear laughing in the distance.

The Flyers have 3 players are true top level worth on their roster:  Richards, Carter and Giroux.  Briere & Gange are a overrated (and overpayed).  Hartnell & Lupul are a joke, Hartnell skates like he’s in quicksand.  Timonen is not a #1 defenseman, and Coburn is miscast as a top level defenseman.  Tell me who Philadelphia is going to replace Biron with (if they can afford him at all)?  And the idea that the Flyers are going to be really active in the free-agency market is a joke, they can’t afford to keep what they already have (under the cap.)  The fact is over the last two years in the playoffs the Pens have an 8-3 advantage over the Fylers, and as Phil Sheridan (Philadelphia Inquirer) wrote, Philly losers, I mean fans, better get used to the Pens being the better team for the next decade.  I personally couldn’t think of a better rite of spring than watching the Pens send the Flyers golfing every year.  Maybe Philly losers, I mean fans, should get Ed Snyder to have his franchise focus more on scoring and defending, than trying to be the stupidest team in the NHL.  Leading the league in minor penalties might give the penalty killing units plenty of practice, but it eventually leads to defeats, like the four they had in this years playoffs, to the Pens.  The measurement isn’t always in power play goals given up, but momentum, and offensive opportunities, sacrificed while killing penalties.  But, I’m sure the Philly losers, I mean fans, will find some conspiracy theory way to ignore the fact their beloved Flyers are NOT in the elite of the Eastern Conference, let alone the whole NHL.  They’ll eventually blame Holmgren & Stevens but it starts at the top with Ed Snyder, the constant presence over 34 years of NO STANLEY CUPS!  So, Philly losers, I mean fans, keep living in the 1970’s, and thinking that winning fights is the way to win cups!  LET’S GO PENS!
