NEW YORK (January 22, 2008)—Two members of the Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks—defenseman Scott Niedermayer and forward Corey Perry—are among five players added to the Western and Eastern Conference rosters for the 2008 NHL All-Star Game, Sunday, Jan. 27 at Philips Arena in Atlanta (6 p.m., ET, VERSUS, CBC, RDS, NHL Radio), the National Hockey League announced today.
Niedermayer and Perry join their Anaheim teammates, defenseman Chris Pronger and forward Ryan Getzlaf, and the give the Ducks a League-high four representatives on the Western Conference team.
Also added to the Western Conference roster is Dallas Stars forward Mike Ribeiro. Named to the Eastern Conference roster are Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin and Boston Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas.
The players named today replace Colorado Avalanche forward Paul Stastny, Detroit Red Wings forward Henrik Zetterberg, Stars defenseman Sergei Zubov, New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur and Penguins forward Sidney Crosby.

Good for Perry. And Scott Niedermayer missed his calling last season, so good for him getting selected again.

Would have liked to see Patrick Kane go to the big game instead of Perry.
Why isn’t Brodeur going to the All Star game? If he isn’t hurt, he should be going. Getting tired of players bagging the game when they are healthy, especially when they are voted in by the fans. I can understand Luongo’s reasoning, but what is Brodeur’s excuse?

Patrick Kane is in the young stars game, he doesn’t qualify for the real all star game. Perry over Dustin Brown? Its easy to play well on a good team. Think about what Brown has done on that lackluster team of misfits and there really shouldn’t be any question.

Have they added a “Best facewash from behind” to the Skills competition. No wonder Perry got the nod.

Perry does have the fourth-most goals scored in the western conference—he’s a more fitting addition than Scott Niedermayer, who voluntarily missed 34 games this year.

Why isn’t Brodeur going to the All Star game?
Chicken. He sees everyone else dropping like flies and wants to avoid the plague.

So ends any speculation that Zetterberg might play. Articles yesterday stated his status for the ASG as doubtful. Being replaced in the lineup removes any doubt. Too bad for “Z” as he didn’t get to play in last years game either.
Since nobody noticed my “not so subtle” Van Halen reference I penned yesterday (going to the show tonite—woohoo!), I’ll repeat it again:
“SOMEBODY GET “Z” A DOCTOR”

There is no minimum age requirement for the All Star game. Patrick Kane is leading his team in scoring. That qualifies him for the All Star game.
Rather see him there than Niedermayer, who’s been playing for 3 weeks.

Anyone else kinda irked that Niedermayer got selected? It peeves me off to no end. I don’t care how good you are or who you are if you have only played 17 games you don’t deserve it. Period. Anyone on defense that has played all the games deserve to be there instead of him.

Hell, I think Rob Niedermayer deserves the selection more than his brother. And that’s not a statement I’ll ever make again.

Rafalski’s 41 points in 49 games >>>>>> Niedermayer’s 11 points in 17 games.

No doubt, Neidermayer is an NHL star. But he does not deserve to be an All Star this year. He hasn’t earned it this year.
George is right. Rafalski should be going. He has played for the fans.

Some folks are making the comparison that Mario Lemieux played eight games after coming back from Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma therapy and STILL made the ASG so why should S. Niedermeyer be denied this year?
The answer is M.Lemieux came back from a life-threatening disease. S.Niedermeyer came back from…what? Vacillation?

Neidermeyer’s selection says a lot to the fans who voted for other defensemen. Basically, the NHL is saying, “Hey, we don’t care who you think belongs here, we’re giving Scotty the spot because he’s a NAME.”
Well, Scotty can take his NAME and put it where the sun don’t shine. IMO, he acted like a prima donna this year: “Oh, I don’t know if I really want to play, but I might if you beg me to..”
Hell, I’d rather see Rory Fitzpatrick play. At least he gave it his all from the very start of the season. Scotty sat on his lazy butt and pondered the revelevance of his naval lint for four months.
Great message to send to the young people out there. I hope he’s booed every time he steps on the ice.

Absolutely Rafalski should have gotten the call. Nieds may be a great defenseman but he should not have been selected. They probably didn’t get Rafalski because there’s lots of Wings playing already. Kane should also have been considered.
I’ll drink to that, OTC!

Matt, it is my understanding Rafalski turned down an invitation to go to Atlanta. They mentioned it during the Wins game last night, he has a family trip planned.
