from On Frozen Pond,
Torts even used Denis Potvin as an example in his pregame press conference, saying the league has gone soft. He says in Denis’ day, players expected to be hit and how a player took a hit was a big part of how the game was played. Now, he says, players don’t expect to be hit.

Kukla’s Korner is always a free service for readers, but it costs some money to maintain. If you’re ever in a position to donate a few dollars to help out, we’d be very appreciative.

Here’s my message to the NHL’s coaches, GM’s, the Board of Governors, and any pundit who says, “Players shouldn’t put themselves in a vulnerable position.”
Show it and teach it.
If it really matters, show it and teach it.
I want to see the NHL put out a video to show players what they consider a clean hit where a player “puts himself in a vulnerable position” versus a hit where a player is unfairly taken advantage of in a situation where he could not have known that a hit was coming.
Teach techniques so that players can brace themselves for hits from behind, just like they reinforce fundamentals like skating, puckhandling, passing, shooting under pressure, going after rebounds, teach it, teach it, teach it.
