from Marc Crawford of Blogs and Columns at CBC,
The great sportswriter from the Detroit Free Press, Mitch Albom, wrote the book titled The Five People You Meet in Heaven. It’s a wonderful story about how the people you meet are influenced by your life and it gives meaning to the significance of the lives we all lead.
As we head into the afterlife known as the NHL post-season, I would like to share with you the five people who hold a special place in my version of playoff heaven.
To begin, I must explain my belief that a team’s playoff success usually requires, to some degree, five elements in order to win the Stanley Cup. These include a great goaltender, a prolific scorer, an outstanding offensive defenceman, a checking line or shut down defensive pair, and, last but not least, an unlikely scoring hero.

Using the words “great” and “wonderful” to describe Mitch Albom and his book is, I’m assuming, another way of saying “hack” and “pandering tripe”?
Okay, then I’ll give it a try… That Marc Crawford was a “terrific” coach.

Yeah, as soon as I saw ‘great sportswriter’ I pretty much hung up the mental phone, too.

With all due respects, Cap’n, the full quote was, “I knew your father before you were born and he wouldn’t be proud of you right now.” I remember the quote too well because it shut Crawford up for good. ![]()
If anyone read the rest of this joke of a post by Marc Crawford, he lists his playoff five: all Dives he coached. Sakic; wife-beating, I have the puck really I do what it’s in the net Wah!; suspended for drug use and traded three times Ozolinsh; bailed out as Captain of Columbus Foote; one goal and he calls it a career Deadmarsh, and karma bites him on the ass with his big mouth Keane.
I’d say something about Sakic’s fluke with the snowblower but I much prefer him as “No ordinary Joe.” About the only thing right and proper with Crawford’s playoff five.
Also, did anyone here actually read Albom’s book? No? Neither did I.

Still the World’s Biggest Douche. The tirade he threw with his eyes bulging out their sockets trying to get over the glass to Scotty Bowman, while Bowman just stood their with this bemused look on his face was priceless. As was Scotty’s reply. I knew your father and he wouldn’t be very proud of you right now.
