Positive Thinking

from the Rome News-Tribune,

The voice of the Atlanta Thrashers, Dan Kamal, spent a few minutes Friday at the Palladium for the Rome Exchange Club’s weekly luncheon and held a question-and-answer session with club members about the NHL team....

“It’s winning that sells, and I think that’s why we’ll bounce back and be a more successful team this year,” Kamal said.

Kamal said that with a new coach, John Anderson, a minor league coach with four championships under his belt, and a young team that was promoted from the minor leagues, the team will have a chance to make it to the playoffs or further this year.

“This team is going to be under the radar this year,” Kamal said. “And I believe we have the goaltending to be champions this year.”

pretty optimistic… if he believes that, he must be the only person anywhere who does…

There are a few people here who think the Thrashers have the potential. The problem is, he should know Atlanta has great goaltending. It’s not in goal where Atlanta has it’s biggest problem, it’s on the blueline.

Atlanta hopes to have fixed that, with the acquisition of Hainsey and Bogosian, as well as bringing in at least one guy from the minors (probably Boris Valabik).

I personally doubt Atlanta will make it to the playoffs this year, but I am pretty sure they are a better team this season than they were last season.

There’s a ton of potential here. The question is, can Atlanta, and John Anderson—who has never had a season below .500—harness this potential and capitalize on it?

Say what you want, but until the pick drops on the regular season, we really don’t know anything about how any team (except for Detroit) is going to perform.
