• While Anaheim Ducks GM Bob Murray has said the 41-year-old and Finnish teammate Saku Koivu are the only two untouchables on his squad, Selanne refused to confirm his plan is to end his career with the Ducks or that he’d turn down a chance to be a Jet again.
“We still have time to go,” said Selanne, whose team will likely be all-but-eliminated from the playoff race before the Feb. 27 trade deadline. “We’ll see.”
(Or another option that Bob McKenzie stated a few days ago, he could go play for Team Finland in the World Championship, which is in Finland this year.)
• The Panthers were actually trying to make a deal for Sean Avery before he was put on waivers by the New York Rangers, but are no longer interested after signing John Madden to address grinder issues.
• Several NHL GMs say they will be watching the fate of the Phoenix Coyotes, as they believe Shane Doan might be available if it’s clear the team is leaving Phoenix. ’Yotes GM Don Maloney denied he’d trade Doan.
