TEAMS WINNING GAMES 1 AND 2 IN THE STANLEY CUP FINAL
Of the 32 home clubs who won the first two games of the Stanley Cup Final since the best-of-seven format was introduced in 1939, 31 went on to win the series. The only club to win the Stanley Cup after dropping the first two Final games on the road was the 1971 Montreal Canadiens, who defeated the Chicago Blackhawks in seven games.
OSGOOD HOLDS TOP WINNING PERCENTAGE IN STANLEY CUP FINAL HISTORY
Red Wings goaltender Chris Osgood enters Game 3 with a 10-2 record, 1.47 goals-against average and .937 save percentage in 13 Stanley Cup Final games. Osgood’s winning percentage of .833 is the best in Stanley Cup Final history among goaltenders with at least 10 decisions, ahead of former Montreal Canadiens great Ken Dryden (24-8, .750).
PENGUINS’ MALKIN REACHES 30-POINT MARK IN 2009 PLAYOFFS
Penguins center Evgeni Malkin tallied his League-leading 30th point of the 2009 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a power-play goal in the first period of Game 2. Malkin (13-17—30 in 19 games) is the first player to post 30 points in a single playoff year since 1996, when Joe Sakic led the Colorado Avalanche to the Stanley Cup with a League-high 34 (18-16—34 in 22 games).

That’s…that’s nice and all but the games still have to be played.

“Darren Millard on HockeyCentral claims his NHL sources said the league was unhappy with the lessened officiating standard the first 2 games and the standards will be enforced more strictly tonight. “

wings have no reason to watch their backs. if it’s the skill game, they’ll play. If it’s the physical game, they’ll play. Whichever way the game flows, they’ll play.

Should’ve started by suspending that bitch Malkin

It is entertaining to observe that in P1 of G3 things are being called much tighter…yet in the final 19 seconds of G2 an act clearly warranting automatic suspension as per NHL rules was deemed to be irrelevant and unworthy of enforcement.
I definitely enjoyed the more wide open play of G1 & G2 more. PP >>> goal…PP >>> goal…rinse repeat just dulls down the clash of two great units. I for one prefer the edge of seat excitement of back & forth transition hockey. I’ve no doubt either team could win if they play the majority of the game short one or more players.
Let them play hockey refs.

The NHL heard players and fans speak approvingly, and this absolutely must be stopped.

Wow, one glaring stat is the amount of PP/PK time from the first two games of last year compared to this year. Games thus far have been pretty clean and not much special teams action.
