Pre-Season Rankings

from Kevin Allen of Mucking and Grinding at USA TODAY,

As an antidote to Sundin rumor fatigue, I offer my pre-labor special power rankings, fully acknowledging that they will undoubtedly change dramatically once Sundin decides whether he loves this game or not.

1. Detroit Red Wings: The Red Wings are the New York Yankees of the NHL. You can hate them if you want, but they have more talent than other team by far. The only caution is that there was another pro sports team in Detroit that was supposed to march to the title this summer and that didn’t go as planned.

2. Montreal Canadiens: This team may score 280-plus goals this season. Mike Komisarek is one of the more underrated players in the league. I didn’t like Bob Gainey’s decision to turn over the goaltending to Carey Price last spring, but I think he will be ready this season.

Ten teams from the East, six from the West, despite the fact the West outpointed the East 180-150 last season in interconference play?

Somebody’s east-coast bias is showing.

By any chance did this other Detroit sports team have Babcock as a head coach?  Yep, didn’t think so.

That team wasn’t coming off winning the championship the previous year already though.  Duh.

You must not be acquainted with Stan Fischler.

Pre-season “rankings” are brutal in and of themselves. It’s just an excuse for hockey writers to pull stuff from within their rear orifices during the off-season.

I’d rather read more Mats Sundin rumors from Eklund.

Does anyone else think the Habs are being a little overrated for this upcoming season?  I mean I think they were a little like the Sens 2 seasons ago.  Everything that could have gone right did… you cannot expect that to happen again (ask the Sens).  I just think they might fall off a bit and finish 4 through 6 in the conference.  Mind you once playoff time hits all bets are off (except that grand I have riding on the Wings wink)

Wow thats bad. First we all know the West is stronger, but yet this isn’t shown. Second, we all know Montreal is going to gloriously crumble into either a losing season, or a spectacular season but lose first round of the playoffs.
Third, why are we looking at a hockey article from the USA today? Americans are hockey ignorant idiots i thought?
Ok i guess that was a bad use of sarcasm, since this actually is a terrible article, and he actually is an ignorant hockey writer.

Anyway, we all know this is supposed to go Detroit, San Jose, Pitt, Dallas,Capitals, Calgary, Rangers, Ducks, Flyers,Ottawa, Devils, Montreal, Blackhawks. No need to keep going, no one else has a shot.

But one team didn’t trade young pitching. Grrrr….

Young pitching is soooo overrated. Pirates have had “Young talent in the minor league” for like 200 years, and yet they are all either still young, or have no talent.
Five more years and we will be good, thats all they need to tell us to sleep easy at night.
