Preds GM “Very Surprised” & “Taken Aback” By Comments From Lites

from the Nashville Predators,

Monday afternoon, Nashville Predators general manager David Poile addressed members of the local media via a conference call to respond to two issues: 1) Comments about the Nashville organization made by Dallas Stars president Jim Lites in Monday’s Dallas Morning News & the five-game suspension to Predators forward Jordin Tootoo that the NHL announced Monday afternoon.

continued… you will have to listen to the remarks by Poile, no transcript of it yet…
In case you missed the story from the Dallas Morning News

added Tuesday, 3/20 at 6:10am, from the Tennessean,

Perhaps he should take that up with the commissioner or probably he should contact the Predators directly,” Poile said. “That’s extremely unprofessional on Lites’ behalf. I can’t think for a second that we would ever do or say something like that about Dallas. It’s uncalled for and I’m sure we’ll take that up with the commissioner.’’
The NHL took notice of the comments by Lites, according to league spokesman Frank Brown. He said Commissioner Gary Bettman had already contacted Lites.
“(Bettman) thought those comments were inappropriate and that was conveyed by the commissioner to the Stars,’’ Brown said.
Brown wouldn’t say if Lites will be subject to disciplinary action.

I listened to the comments, and they all seemed to point to different excuses as to why Modano’s achievement was not acknowledged during the game!!! First it was they hadn’t received any requests seeming to blame the Stars organization...then it was the organization felt it would not be a good idea sine the goal came immediately after the place was silenced by their player’s childish and thoughtless sucker punch to Robidas’ face. Well, sir, which is it? Maybe it is all of the above? Maybe you are too worried about how your hand full of idiot fans would react after booing Modano when near the puck, taking a breath of their air, and even after such awesome mile stone was reached...not just for Modano, this is one he shares with the entire league...do your fans come to see your players try to seriously injure the opponents or come to see hockey? I for one wish we had one more home game with the Preds this season so they could come see how a REAL hockey town and REAL hockey fans treat all, ya know like human beings?!?!?!?  Oh well, I guess the good thing is that the celebration wasn’t wasted in front of such idiots in Nashville, and instead I was able to be there when they came home Sunday and BELIEVE me ... we made up for your lack of care!

Get a grip Bekah.  As someone who was actually in the arena Saturday night, I believe the Predators organization made the correct call at the time.  Yes hindsight is 20/20.  One thing you need to remember, the crowd did not have the benefit of seeing a replay of the incident.  Therefore, I and everyone around me believed Modano should’ve been in the penalty box not out scoring a goal.  Mentioning his accomplishment in that setting would’ve only caused the taunting and booing to get louder than it already was.  As far as I’m concerned, the celebration happened where it should’ve happened all along - in front of the home team’s fans.
