Price Booed In Montreal

from Damien Cox of The Spin,

There are two ways out for Carey Price.

One, he can have a strong season and make Montreal Canadiens fans forget Jaroslav Halak. Well, if not forget Halak, at least make it appear that their isn’t as large a talent gap between the two young netminders as some contend.

Two, Lars Eller can be really, really good. Really, really fast.

If neither of those scenarios emerges over the next couple of months, Price could be facing animosity of rather startling dimensions, at least when he plays in front of home audiences at the Bell Centre.

In the Habs first exhibition start Wednesday night against Boston, Price allowed four goals on nine shots and was booed. Afterwards, he wasn’t talking, preferring silence to a description/analysis of either his play or his feelings.

added 8:20am, from Dave Stubbs of Habs Inside/Out,

That Canadiens goalie Carey Price wasn’t available to say a few words to the media after Wednesday’s 4-2 loss to the Boston Bruins might or might not have been his choice.

If Price chose not to speak, he would have been helped a great deal by having someone on the team suggest to him – strongly – that it was in his best interests to make a dressing-room appearance, if even briefly.

If it was the Canadiens who chose not to make him available, they did their No. 1 goalie, and themselves, a disservice.

In regards to the article from Stubbs:

I can’t stand reading crap like this.  It comes around more and more it seems.  Is there a paragraph in this entire article that he is not referencing himself or how Price is not doing something for him.

I hope Price doesn’t give an interview all year.

Just report like a journalist you a-hole!

I have a feeling the Canadiens brass told Price not to address the media.
But I feel the reasons for that was because they feared Price would say something stupid.

Price will be out of Montreal by the end of his contract. Guaranteed.  He should have been dealt over Halak.
But hey, that’s what happens when you don’t have one intelligent person amongst the Habs braintrust.

You made a little mistake Paul. The first article is from Damien Cox not Price.

It’s tough to see Price not address the media after such a poor performance. Most “great” players take ownership when they turn in a bad game, and after the Halak trade and everything else Price knew he would be booed mercilessly if he didn’t have a good start. I’m curious to see if Gauthier pulls a Bob Gainey a la Patrice Brisebois and asks the fans not to boo. I doubt Gauthier does this, but without some sort of action I fear this could get really ugly.

Canadiens fans need to stop being such f*cking children.

They’ve treated every goalie they’ve had since (and including) Patrick Roy like crap, expecting greatness and booing like babies when the goalies don’t live up to near-impossible expectations.

They don’t deserve to cheer for a great team.
