from Jim Kelley at Sportsnet,
Recchi was and likely still is furious with the way he was treated. That’s understandable, especially coming from a player who gave so much of himself to hockey. But that’s also life in the NHL these days. There is no room for sentiment and not much even for players who have made lifelong contributions to winning. But the simple fact of the matter is that for all his talk about how well he had been playing before the cruel cut came, it simply isn’t true.
Recchi had five points in his first six games of the season, six in the first eight, but nothing in his final 10 before being put on the departure list.

I always find it interesting to read the way in which Kelley weaves together a critical piece on a particular player. He goes with a shocking headline and a particularly nasty one-line summary, and then he reverts into an essay-writing mode, slowly but surely building an argument not only questioning the player’s skills, but also his approach to the game (Kelley seems to love to go after guys who feel they don’t get proper “respect"), and as he wraps up his argument--usually an argument based upon more examples than quotes--his tone turns extremely acerbic again, and he makes a concluding statement that reinforces his headline. It’s formulaic, and it works, but it gets old.
Sometimes you kind of get the feeling that somebody might want to wring his neck after reading one of those columns, you know?
