From the CP via TSN:
The National Hockey League has fined Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville US$10,000 for criticizing the officiating in Game 4 of the Western Conference final.
Quenneville fumed over a roughing call against defenceman Matt Walker during a scrum as the first period ended Sunday.

As bad as that call might have or had not been, there is still no excuse for the unprofessional behavior. Mr.Quinville is an experienced professional, he has had more than the benefit of doubt on much that had not been whistled. At some point the officials had to get some control over the dirty crap that was happening.
They did so by sending a message to the man that was instructing his team to injure other players. To play like goons. Remember Q. is the guy calling the shots behind the bench. He was running the show and a message had to be sent. The announcers made several references to the blatant head shots and other missed calls by the refs on Chicago on more than one Detroit player.
I have yet to see Mike Babcock go berserk when calls, questionable at best, were not challenged in the same manner as Joel Quinville. Maybe an anger management class would be more appropriate.
I do think the officiating is horribly inconsistent and pretty much sucks, but I am a Wings fan so most would refer to me as whining. Wrong. I rarely blast the zebras. I just always figure that my guys have to beat the team in front of them and the team of refs. As a Wings fan I have watched Quinville plenty during his career. Same coach, different team.
Lets Go Red Wings!!!!!

This sort of thing only further’s Quenneville’s reputation as being the Wings’, erm… well, you know…

JQ besmirches not only the heritage of an original 6 organization, but a legend in Scotty Bowman. Shameful temper tantrum(s) on the bench, and disgusting 3 year old behavior with the media. (Undoubtedly trying to sway the zebras to ‘even out’ the penalty calls in the next game a la Dandy Randy Carlysle.)
Does anyone doubt for 1 second that this coach helped his team lose this last game? Shameful....disgusting....keep it up!
Bring on Cindy for round 2 of his public spanking!
It’s 5 to 12, do you know where your hero is?
Not that it really matters tho....$10,000 to Queenville is what, another lavender tie?

Ms. “Crybaby” Quenneville not only loses to the Wings again in a playoff series (YES it will happen) but he has to fork over ten grand as well. Geez, the only thing better than that would be if the Dive hired Patty “I’ve Got It In My Glove” Roy as both their coach and their GM. Could we possibly be that lucky?

Joel Quenneville is kind of an idiot, and the Wings make him their bitch on a regular basis. But this fine is moronic.
I HATE the fact that the NHL fines coaches and players who publicly criticize the officiating. I remember growing up in Detroit, Scotty Bowman was on the Channel 4 news virtually every night bitching about the officiating...its part of the game! Everyone knows the officiating is bad (or ‘subjective’ at best), what does the league gain by this gag rule? All it does is make the league look insecure and lend credence to the league’s critics (such as myself).

My only issue with the penalty called against CHi that incited this fiasco, is simply the fact that ANA got away with the same “roughing” constantly.
That out of the way, Q has been and will be the Wings bitch.
