Quit Whining About All-Star Voting

From Scott Morrison at CBC:
The league will still make sure that best players are represented in the game. Chances are at least a couple of those Canadiens would make it any way.
It’s curious that a game, the all-star game, that is annually mocked and criticized for what it is, can muster so much emotion from people.
There is, of course, a simple way to solve the problem, or at least attempt to solve the problem. Turn on the computer and vote. Often.
Otherwise take a valium.

With all due respect to my Canadian friends, this is a typical Canadian biased response….
If it was determined, for example, that it were the Rangers fans or the Penguins fans, or heaven forbid, one of those dastardly “Southern teams” that were the ones that got caught with the voting script, Morrison and all of the other “experts” would be up in arms, and they know it…
But because it’s Montreal, with its 100th anniversary and the game itself there, everyone else is supposed to just suck it up, right Scott ?? I’ve got a question for those Habs fans, though. What if it were the Leafs fans who were running the script ?? Different story, huh ??

Tony - Gee, I love generalizations. Oy. Well, you might find this interesting anyway.

Yeah, I read that Alanah, and on second thought it’s unfair to lump all Canadians in with Morrison’s opinion, I stand corrected….
However, my premise remains - Do you honestly think that the “don’t worry about it” attitude would be there if, say, the Rangers were doing it ??

I don’t think the “don’t worry about it” attitude is all that common, period. Morrison and a few other journalists have expressed it, but the vast majority—that I’ve noticed—seem to believe differently. Americans and Canadians. So I guess my answer is that I don’t think the NYR angle would really make much of a difference. Some people are going to freak out, and some people are going to think it’s no big deal. The side Morrison would come out on, I can’t begin to guess.
In this particular situation, I think Morrison is wrong in his position, but only because I think his position discounts the fans… yet he pretends that it truly reflects what fans want.
Well, news for Morrison: automatic vote applications being used on a web browser only reflects what some fans want and not others. He’s basically advocating that everyone should cheat if they have a problem with it, which is stupid.

Well, I agree for the most part, except that you’d see more of a reaction if fans of an American team did it…
Just my opinion…
