Two weeks in a row now, I think it’s safe to say that the regular “On the Hockey Blogs” feature has been renamed and will continue in this format. A collection of quotes by bloggers from this past week, with links to their stories. Check out these blogs and others that show up every Tuesday.
This week’s collection features 10 quotes and story links. Please enjoy.
“How bad are the Coyotes? They can even drag down the reputation of the Great One. Indeed, it’s like everything that touches this franchise turns to crap.”
Hockey Nation relives the nightmare that is the Phoenix Coyotes while rejoicing in the fact that at least fans of the Winnipeg Jets, while still missing their old team, at least don’t have to endure the current horror.
“I’ve decided that I’m not going to focus too much on last night’s game. It’s not because they lost. Trust me, I’ve been watching this team for all 24 years of my life and I’m used to them losing…”
The DC Caps Chick talks about Washington’s losing matchup against Vancouver last Saturday night. Read her whole post for the interesting perspective of an American fan watching her team tour through Western Canada.
“First, Calgary is more “hated” than Edmonton (for me, Edmonton’s success and resultant smugness annoys me to no end - moreso than Calgary who gain favor from my admiration of Lanny MacDonald’s mustache) and Second, we just don’t care about Minnesota.”
Hockey NW just doesn’t give a crap about Minnesota. (And that reminds me—the Wild really need to be added to this year’s Axis of Evil...)
Dirtiest Player in the NHL? “Past title-holders include Ulfie “The Career Ender” Samuelsson, Claude “Watch Your Back” Lemieux, Bobby “Ankle Breaker” Clarke and the imfamous Bryan “Knees” Marchment.”
Hockey Dirt reflects on past and present ‘dirty’ hockey players. Check out the post to find out who the current candidates are.
“In 2002, many in Hurricanes leadership were still saying everything was gonna be all right well after the women, children and UNC grads had rowed away from the Titanic. I think there’s icebergs in the waters again this year.”
Southeast Shootout posits that things in Carolina are looking a bit touch-and-go: “The wheels on this bus had better get fixed pretty quick - like NASCAR quick - or the class of the league, including the Thrash, will leave the Canes in the dust by Thanksgiving.”
“The Wings aren’t the only team that is proving the hockey media wrong. The Colorado Avalanche, who also have been picked to fall by the columnists, has won four in six, including a big one over the Minnesota Wild…”
On the Wings Blog* is pleased at the turn of fortunes happening in Detroit lately. (*This is the old “On the Wings” blog, but at a new address. Be sure to update your bookmarks.)
“I am #$%* Wayne Gretzky and I can do anything!”
Confessions of a Hockey Fanatic evaluates the issues to be found in Phoenix these days. Can Gretzky really do anything? It ain’t looking so good.
Overheard on the broadcast when the Canucks visited the Blackhawks:
“THIS GAME SUCKS—NO ONE LIKES CANADA—JUST GET OFF THE ICE—THAT’S WHAT I WANT HIM TO DO—LET’S GO BEARS—YOU GUYS STILL SUCK!”
Stick in Rink picks out the finer points of crowd heckling in Chicago last week.
“From the outside, this building looks like an airplane hangar, and once inside, it begs the question, ‘Where are the blimps?’”
Sharks Hockey Odyssey spends some time at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, checking out the building on a road trip following the Sharks. (And on that subject, some rather unique NHL blimps.)
“I’m not dead! A lot has happened in the month since my last post. I’m up one one wedding band, up one mortgage, and down one assload of money. So this is what it’s like to be a grown-up.”
Sisu Hockey is back in business (yay!) and embracing adulthood. (Highly overrated in my experience, and I sincerely hope this discovery doesn’t screw up Jeff’s excellent blog…)
Congratulations to Jeff, and thanks to all the hockey bloggers that gave me some great reads this week.
