Randy Jones May Be A Salary Cap Casualty

from Chuck Gormley of the Courier-Post,

With a 2009-10 salary of $3 million, Jones ranks fourth among Flyers defensemen, behind Kimmo Timonen ($7 million), Chris Pronger ($6.25 million) and Matt Carle ($3.5 million). But with Braydon Coburn ($1.4 million) and Ryan Parent ($765,000) due big raises after this season and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and Danny Syvret pushing hard for roster spots on the blue line, Jones realizes he could become a salary cap casualty.

“Anything can happen,” acknowledged Jones, who is expected to be in the lineup tonight when the New Jersey Devils visit the Wachovia Center for the Flyers’ fifth of seven exhibition games. “It’s a whole new game with the salary cap.

“I’m not coming in looking at that. I want to work my butt off, crack this lineup and have a strong season for 82 games and into the playoffs. I’m not looking at what might happen or what could happen.

“People can look at (my salary) and that’s fine. Guys go through disappointing seasons and some rough patches and last season was one for me. It’s not like I don’t feel I can play in this league.”
