from Stan Fischler at Game On,
As a matter of fact, I’ll now go on record stating that the acquisitions of Swedish defenseman Christian Backman and forward Fredrik (Call Me Freddie) Sjostrom will be as positive for the Blueshirts roster as last year’s addition of Sean (The Great Gabbo) Avery.
I’ll go one step further and hereby forecast that the roster, as now constituted, is good enough to carry New York to the top of the division and then all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals.
much more on the Rangers…

i think Fischler gets too high on the Rangers as well… but YES Dubinsky will become a superstar. Pierre McGuire said something to the effect that Dubi is gonna surprise the league, and other teams are gonna wonder where he came from.

When I think superstar, I think Gretzky, Jagr, Crosby, Ovechkin, etc. I don’t think Dubi will ever get in that group. I’d love to be pleasantly surprised, though.

Frankenstein had all the parts necessary as well, that didn’t make him too successful in the end either.

OK, they have all the parts…but are they parts to the same machine?
“The Maven” just gets more out there every time I pay attention to him. This morning he was saying Brandon Dubinsky is on his way to becoming a superstar. Dubinsky’s good and will probably get better, but a superstar? C’mon now.
These Rangers trades were basically insurance (Backman) and “I’ll give you my spare parts for yours.” Nothing special.
