Reaction On The Brown Hit

from Helene Elliott of the LA Times,

The shot that should be remembered is Nicklas Lidstrom’s pouncing on his own rebound, miraculously alone in a shifting sea of bodies, and rifling the puck past Ducks goaltender Jonas Hiller with 49.1 seconds left in the third period to give the Detroit Red Wings a 3-2 victory Friday in the opener of the teams’ second-round playoff series.

The shot that will resonate for the remainder of this matchup between the last two Stanley Cup champions is Mike Brown’s first-period hit on Detroit’s Jiri Hudler, which left Hudler bleeding profusely from his forehead and the Red Wings furious over an infraction they believe merited more than the five-minute penalty and game misconduct Brown got.

continued & if you missed the hit, watch it here and read the discussion going on about the hit too…

What else could the referees have done?  They threw him out of the game!

She probably means that after the game they were talking about the possibility of suspension for a hit to the head.

Yeah, but that could still happen.  The wording suggests they were mad because nothing else was done at that time.

Carlyle said. “They can say all they want about a dirty hit. That wasn’t a dirty hit. You’re allowed to take the body in this game.”

That’s right, Conehead. You’re allowed to take the body. But you’re not allowed to take a shot at someone’s head. And I’m not buying for a second the BS that Brown is dishing out…

I don’t know if he was in a vulnerable position or not, but I was just taking the body,” Brown said. “I think his visor might have hit him in the head.

Riiiiight. Let’s see. You were looking right at him. You saw that his head was turned. You turned your body so you were leading with your shoulder. You aimed your shoulder at his head. And you drove that hit home by raising your arm so you could also hit him with your elbow. As a Quack, I can see how you’d think that was just a standard “physical” play.

And, yes, Happy probably was cut by his visor...when you drove it into his head with your elbow, you moron.
