from Al Balderas of Ducks Blog at the OC Register,
When Teemu Selanne sealed his hat trick in Wednesday night’s overtime Ducks victory, the reaction of the 17,174 fans at Honda Center was pathetic.
It took close to 30 seconds before one measly hat went zipping through the air. I didn’t see more than two hats land on the ice.
By night’s end, more octopi had landed on the Honda Center ice than hats. And the Ducks were the winning team!!!
By contrast, it was easy to feel that buzz in the arena that was generated by the Red Wings fans in attendance.

The OC register always mentions this, they are perenially amazed by the amount of Red Wings supporters at these games. News flash, it’s been happening for years. Where were they during the playoffs? There was Red everywhere you went, not to mention the drone of “Go Sens Go” during the Stanley Cup Finals (different team, but just going for emphasis here).
The only thing that bothers me, as a Ducks fan, is how quiet the stadium is at times. Leaving early is one thing, I have seen nearly every team exhibit that (although some do it in larger proportions) but taking a vow of silence as soon as the Ducks surrender a goal? FAIL! You would think this plagues all of California, but the Kings and Sharks have great fans.
On a final note, it really was disappointing seeing a scarcity of hats for the Flash.

...and this is why the NHL perennially screws the Wings over by having them in the Western Conference. Detroit’s an easy 2000+ draw over their usual average to other NHL teams, and since most of the teams in the West are also the teams which die at the gate… voila! Detroit gets in in the pooper again.

what’s up with all these articles about the sincerity and knowledge of Wings fans
I’ll be at the Shark Tank tonight in my Yzerman sweater. I’ll try to act as boorish and immature as the wife (in Cheechoo livery, ugh) will allow.
